Hulu Kills Free Streaming Service


Following the reveal of the Commercial-Free Plan eleven months ago, Hulu has officially announced that its streaming and video on demand services will no longer be including the Free Ad-Supported plan, and will be switching over to an all-subscription model.

Alongside terminating its free ad-supported plan, Hulu has announced that its thousands of free TV episodes will now be available at Yahoo View as part of the company's new distribution deal. Yahoo View is a new ad-supported TV-streaming site with the five most recent episodes of shows from ABC, NBC and Fox — eight days after original air date — as well as other network shows, day-after clips, and full seasons of anime and Korean drama series.

According to Hulu "For the past couple years, we’ve been focused on building a subscription service that provides the deepest, most personalized content experience possible to our viewers," The company continued "As we have continued to enhance that offering with new originals, exclusive acquisitions, and movies, the free service became very limited and no longer aligned with the Hulu experience or content strategy".

Users interesting in Hulu will now have two subscription options, Limited Commercials for $7.99/month or No Commercials for $11.99. Last but not least, those who want the free Hulu content will have head over to Yahoo View.
