Google Brings Android Apps To Chrome OS Stable Channel


Following the release of Android Apps on Chrome OS Developer Channel three months ago, Google is back once again with some pretty exciting new and has announced that the Play Store is finally expanding to the Chrome OS Stable Channel.

With the release of Chrome OS Stable channel 53.0.2785.129 (Platform version: 8530.90.0), which brings a number of bug fixes, security updates and feature enhancements including the Google Play Store (beta) and Kernel version update in the TPM, users on the stable channel will finally be able to enjoy their favorite android app and games right from their Chromebooks.

To enable the Play Store on the Stable Channel, all you have to do is:

  • Make sure your are running the latest Stable channel 53.0.2785.129 (Platform version: 8530.90.0)
  • Click the bottom right corner of your screen and go to the Settings page
  • Look for the "Play store" section and check the box that says "Enable Google Play Store on your Chromebook"
  • Hit the "Get started" button, and after you agree to the terms, you'll see the Play store app open
  • Voila!
The Stable channel 53.0.2785.129 (Platform version: 8530.90.0) is now rolling out on the Acer Chromebook R11 and Asus Chromebook Flip, with more Chromebooks such as the Chromebook Pixel (2015) to get it later on.
