Google Brings Android Apps To New Chromebook

Following the release of Android Apps on the ASUS Chromebook Flip and then the Chromebook Pixel (2015) and the Acer Chromebook R11, Google has revealed the latest Chromebook joining the Android party, the Acer R13.

To enable the Google Play Store on your Acer R13, all you have to do is:

  • Click the bottom right corner of your screen and go to the Settings page
  • Hit the "About Chrome OS" button and then the "More info ..."
  • Click the "Change channel ..." button and then choose the Click the "Beta" option
  • Hit the "Change channel" button to confirm and your Chromebook will begin downloading the latest developer channel for device
  • Once the download is finished, you need to reboot your Chromebook, and Voila! you are now in Chrome OS v55 beta channel
  • Click the bottom right corner of your screen and go to the Settings page
  • Look for the "Play store" section and check the box that says "Enable Google Play Store on your Chromebook"
  • Hit the "Get started" button, and after you agree to the terms, you'll see the Play store app open
  • Voila!
Reminder: If the beta channel is just too buggy for you, you can always change it back by going to the "Change channel" section and choosing the "Stable" option to switch over. Some apps need to be updated in order to work with Chrome OS.

That's it, you can now download and install your favorite Android apps and games on your Acer R13, with more Chromebooks to be added later on.
